Peace and Development Advisors
Overview of PDA presence
Over the past decade, support provided in the context of the Joint UNDP-DPPA Programme has contributed to strengthening conflict prevention capacities at national and local levels on the one hand, and supporting national architectures for peace, mediation, and dialogue on the other.
This support is often provided through the deployment of Peace and Development Advisors (or PDAs), a growing cadre of UN staff who support Resident Coordinators and UN Country Teams to adapt and respond to complex political situations, and to develop and implement strategic conflict prevention initiatives and programmes.
The deployment of PDAs represents perhaps the most visible element of the partnership, although it should be noted that the Joint UNDP-DPPA Programme includes a wider range of activities.
